"It's difficult to be odd in a culture of sameness. Society is not kind to the odd, the strange, the different, the broken, and the outcast. But Jesus is. Sophisticated culture doesn't like aliens and rejects. But Jesus likes us. Most people would not choose odd people, but Jesus chooses us.
"I wonder how many of us have turned away from Jesus, given up any hope of the spiritual life because we don't fit, because we aren't like everyone else, and because our Christianity seems so different and strange from the rest of the church's. I wonder if we realize how anxious Jesus is to reach out and walk with us arm in arm."
